YAC (Youth Ambassador Coalition) is a new club at Robertsville Middle School which will try to help people stay away from substance abuse, or putting things in your body that don’t belong there (such as drugs and alcohol). YAC is sponsored by ASAP of Anderson County. The Middle School Ambassadors Program at RMS will connect with the high school YAC, which has already been a part of ORHS for several years.

Julie Kinder-McMillan, eighth grade RMS teacher, will be the sponsor of the club. Kinder-McMillan said that there will be an application process to join the group, which will meet monthly.

There is possibility that members will be doing community service. Kinder-McMillan said, “We will get together to do service projects. One of our main goals will be to educate our peers about the dangers of substance abuse.”

Kinder-McMillan agreed to sponsor the club because of her own past experiences. “I have never done drugs, and I don’t drink alcohol, but I was very close to someone who did. He became addicted as a teenager, and it ruined his life. He died a premature death after a life-long struggle against addiction. I am glad we will have this new club at RMS so that we can try to help other teens avoid making bad decisions that can affect their present and future lives,” Kinder-McMillan shared.
